James C. “Jim” Birt, age 67, of Elwood, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the 
Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. 
  
Services will be held on Monday, April 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Berryman 
Funeral Home in Cozad with Pastor Mike Parsh officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in the Elwood Cemetery at Elwood

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Berryman Funeral Home 
in Cozad.

Dinner following the burial will be held at the American Legion Hall in 
Elwood. 

Jim was born on Dec. 23, 1943, at Elwood, to John and Leona (Voreis) Birt.  He 
graduated from Elwood High School in 1962.   

Jim was united in marriage to Patricia Glaze on June 15, 1968 at Idaho Falls, 
Idaho.  

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Birt of Elwood; two daughters, Mary 
(Scott) Rezendes of Hinesville, Ga., and Leigh Tylka of Elwood; two sons, 
Peter Birt of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Jamie Birt of Elwood; brother, Toby 
(Cindy) Boss of Waverly; two sisters, Tammy (Stan) Harm of Madrid and Jonna 
(Dave) Olson of Franktown, Colo.; six grandchildren, Courtney (Kat) Leney, 
Christopher Knott, Heather Knott, Jake Rezendes, Maggie Rezendes and Ben 
Rezendes; great -grandchild, Jetta Leney and many other relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Walter Boss; 
granddaughter, Molly Patricia Walther; stepbrother, Garold Dean Boss and 
stepsister, Effie Joy Carter.
