Funeral services will be conducted from the Hope Lutheran Church of rural Smithfield on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Cathi Braasch officiating. Interment will be in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Gosper County with military honors provided by the Bertrand Veterans Organization in conjunction with the U.S. Army National Guard Military Honors Team. Visitation was held at the Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011. Larry was born May 12, 1950 at Oxford, the youngest of two children born to Melvin and Berdina (Schievelbein) Evans. He received his education from Elwood Public Schools. Following his education, Larry served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam until his honorable discharge and returned to the family farm south of Smithfield. On May 11, 1979 he was united in marriage to Vicki Muller at Elwood and to this union three sons were born; Nathan Eugene, Joshua Michael and Lucas LeRoy. The family made their home in the Smithfield/Bertrand area, where Larry was employed as a truck driver. He was also employed by the Village of Bertrand and Village of Loomis, until returning to his roots of farming south of Smithfield. He leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Berdina Evans of Bertrand; three sons, Nate Evans, Josh (fiancé, Segrid Torrey) Evans and Luke (Jessica) Evans, all of Bertrand; five grandchildren, Gunner, Brooklyn, Katelyn and Brayden Evans and Leyton Torrey; his former wife and best friend, Vicki Evans of Lexington; brother-in-law, Dan Louthan of Smithfield and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Evans; daughter, Angela Ann; and sister, Carol Ann Louthan.
