Funeral Mass was 11:00 a.m. Monday March 15, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. Burial with military honors was at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Bud served with the Third Marine Division in WW II, married Elsie Knobbe in 1947, retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 38 years of service in 1980 and retired a second time as supervisor of the West Point Park in 1989. Bud was active in the VFW, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, St. Mary’s Church, Central Catholic Booster Club and Elwood Booster Club. Bud is survived by daughters Mary (Mike) Parizek of Omaha; Jane (Tom) Ortmeier of Fort Collins, Colo., Carol Mahlberg of Omaha; Kevin (Brenda) Mahlberg of Elwood; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Jerry (Mary) Mahlberg; sister Virginia Hebbeln; sister-in-law Valeria Schlect; brothers-in- law Clem (Mildred) Knobbe, Harry (Doris) Knobbe and numerous nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his beloved wife Elsie; three infant children; parents Ray and Barbara Mahlberg and sisters, Delores Shaw, Rita Mahlberg (infant) and brother Ray Mahlberg.
