Alta Garnet Sanders, 88, died Jan. 8, 2009 at the Life Care Center in Casper, 
Wyo.

Services were held Monday, Jan. 12, 2009 at the First Christmas Church with 
Pastor Charles Shannon officiating. 

Interment was at the Highland Cemetery.

Survivors include sisters-in-law Martha Anderson of Elwood and Nada Bell 
Anderson of Kearney.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Verne, Clarke, Lynne and 
William and two sisters, Clara Rosfeld and Vera Ziebell.

Alta was born Jan. 17, 1920, near Elwood, the daughter of William and Meryl 
(Whisler) Anderson. She graduated from Elwood High School in 1937 following 
which she began her career in teaching in the rural schools of Nebraska. 

In 1946 she graduated from the Wichita Business College in Wichita, Kan. Prior 
to moving to Casper in 1958, she taught school in Lexington for three years.

In 1959 she earned her college degree from the Kearney State Normal College at 
Kearney.

She taught in the old Central School in 1959, the last year the school was 
open, located where Wells Fargo Bank is now. From that time until her 
retirement in 1984, she taught school at Paradise Valley Elementary School. 

Alta was a member of the First Christian Church, the Casper Retired Teachers 
Association, the Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority (Beta Conclave), the Business and 
Professional Women’s Association, Casper Rebekah Lodge No. 139 and the 
Concerned Citizens for Quality Nursing Home Care.

Bustard’s Funeral Home in Casper, Wyo., is in charge of the arrangements.
