Doug Schmeeckle, age 61 of Elwood, died Aug.17, 2011 at the Nebraska Medical 
Center at Omaha.  

Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Our 
Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood with Pastor Kenton Birtell officiating.  
Burial will be in the Elwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday at the Our Redeemer 
Lutheran Church in Elwood.

Doug was born Oct. 3, 1949 at Lexington to Henry Christ and Wilma Fern (Fritz) 
Schmeeckle.  Doug was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eustis.  He 
attended District 4 School, north of Elwood and eventually graduated from 
Elwood High School in 1968.   

On June 26, 1971, Doug married Linda Stamps at Lexington.  Their union was 
blessed with two children.On Oct. 6, 1984, Doug married Janice M. Brown. 

Survivors include his wife, Jan Schmeeckle of Elwood; daughter, Dana Loebig of 
Kearney; son, Jon (Avivit Fisher) Schmeeckle of New York City, N.Y.; two step-
sons, Joe (Andrea) Remmenga of Lincoln and Nick Remmenga of Elwood; two 
grandchildren, Tyler and Amanda Loebig of Kearney; brother, Larry (Gloria) 
Schmeeckle of Garden City, Kan.; three sisters, Cheryl (Larry) Brell of 
Elwood, Cherese (Kerry) Barnes of Smithfield, Christie (Troy) Bevington of 
Fremont; two brothers-in-law, Jim (Millie) Brown of Holdrege, Jerry (Carolyn) 
Brown of Doniphan; sister-in-law, Carolyn Brown of Holdrege and a host of 
nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents.
