Funeral Services were held Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Pastor K.C. BeDunnah officiating. Burial was at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege. Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. He was born Feb. 22, 1916, at Royston, Ga., to Will and Martha (Roberts) Smith. J.T. was united in marriage to Blanche Cleo Freeman on Oct.7, 1939, in Greenville, S.C. Five children were blessed to this marriage; Tommy, Hilda, Sharon, Dan and Robbin. Joseph and Blanche lived in South Carolina until 1969 when they moved to Smithfield. J.T. spent most of his life trucking. After Blanche died in 1991, continued to live in Smithfield until 2001. He then moved to Methodist Homes in Holdrege and later moved to Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington. He enjoyed woodworking and he was a good mechanic. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved his trucking. J.T. will be greatly missed. Survivors include two sons; Tommy (Ronnie) Smith of Lexington, Dan (Helen) Smith of Simpsonville, S.C.; three daughters, Hilda Wilken of North Platte, Sharon (Kenneth) Keith of Fountain Inn, S.C., Robbin (Bill) Allerheiligen of Harvard, Ill.; one sister; Glaydell Henderson of Greenville, S.C.; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. J.T was preceded in death by his parents, wife Blanche in 1991, three brothers, two grandsons; Greg and Tony, and one son-in-law Doug Wilken.
