Funeral Mass will be Saturday, March 29 at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, in Smithfield with Father Thomas J. Lux officiating. Interment will be March 29, at 2:30 p.m. at Riverton Cemetery in Riverton. Viewing and visitation will be Friday, March 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elwood Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited on Friday, March 28 at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Smithfield. Survivors include her husband, Martin J. of Elwood; five sons, Martin J. II (Judith) Svoboda of Fayetteville, Ark., Thomas B. Svoboda of McCook, Michael A. (Cindy) Svoboda of Missoula, Mont., Daniel J. (Cindy) Svoboda of Holdrege, and Ronald E. (Lee Ann) Svoboda of Anaheim, Calif.; daughter, Katherine (Duane) Lange of Ord; brother Jack (Velma) Siel of Franklin; 20 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Steven M. Lange. Laura was born on Feb. 12, 1928 at Riverton to Everett T. and Mabel (Schmitz) Siel. She attended and graduated high school from Riverton High School in 1945. She would then attend Kearney State College and graduate with a teaching degree in 1949 and receive her masters in elementary education from Arizona State University. On June 1, 1950, she married Martin J. Svoboda at St. Joseph Catholic Church in York.
