His father, born at Grantsville, Maryland, December 28, 1862, is one of Grand Island’s most outstanding citizens. For a number of years a newspaper publisher, he is now general manager of The Augustine Company. His mother, who is of Irish descent, was born at Mineral Point, Wisconsin, July 3, 1860. Educated in the public schools of Grand Island, Ernest Webster Augustine afterward attended Grand Island College. He was co-editor of the Free Press from 1908-12, and in 1908, in conjunction with his father, I. M. Augustine, established The Augustine Company, of which he has since been general manager. This organization manufacturers advertising, calendars, specialties, and various lines of specialty printing. In addition Mr. Augustine is a director of the Commercial Bank of Grand Island. He is a trustee of Grand Island College, was for a number of years a director of the Chamber of Commerce, and is now a director of the Rotary Club. A former vice president of the local Young Men’s Christian Association, he was chairman of the building committee at the time the new building was erected. He is a member of the state committee of the Young Men’s Christian Association, has been trustee and treasurer of St. Paul’s English Lutheran Church for more than twenty years, and is a Mason (Blue Lodse Chanter Knight Templar and Shrine).’ A member of the Hall County Historical Society, he is a life member of the Nebraskana Society, this recognition having been given him for his participation in civic and community projects over a long period of years. Mr. Augustine is a heavy real estate holder, and in 1925 erected one of the finest homes in the city. He is a member of the Riverside Country Club, and a Democrat. On June 15, 1910, he was married to Pernelia Mercedes Spethman, at Grand Island. Mrs. Augustine, who is of German descent, was born at North Loup, Nebraska, July 17, 1886, There are three children: Mercedes, born April 12, 1912, who will graduate this year from Ward Belmont, at Nashille, Tennessee; Webster, born September 24, 1918; and Ernest, Jr., born May 29, 1925.
