Marta Wheeler officiating. The family has honored Velma’s wishes that her body be cremated. There will be no visitation. She was born Oct. 31, 1923, at Phillips, to Ernest E. and Lina J. (Tucker) Walker. She was united in marriage to Fahy Wadkins on Nov. 2, 1940, at York. Fahy preceded Velma in death on Feb. 19, 2008.   Velma and Fahy lived most of their married lives in Phillips where Fahy was postmaster and Velma worked as a postal clerk for 23 years. After retirement they lived in Yuma, Ariz., for 10 years, Grand Island for five years and then moved to Lexington on March 20, 1999, to be near family. Velma was a 60-plus year member of the Phillips Methodist Church in Phillips. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, doing latchhook and camping. She was a wonderful mother and always had a kind word for everyone. She will be so very missed.   She is survived by three sons, Marion Wadkins and Dennis (Jane) Wadkins of Grand Island, Douglas (Theresa) Wadkins of Lexington; one daughter, Marty Martin of Lawton, Okla.; one sister, Wanda (Ken) Culver of Sunnyside, Wash.; five grandchildren, Kim Wadkins and husband Todd Meyer of Gibbon, Butch and Jennifer Evans of Grand Island, Patrick and Michael Wadkins of Lincoln, Amy and Steve Whitefoot of Atoka, Tenn., and 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.   Velma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fahy; three brothers, Burl, Delbert and Vernon; one sister, Lois and one great-granddaughter, Christyna.
