On September 18, 1872, at 9:00 a.m., the plat of the original town was filed for record. Old Plymouth Cemetery is located just west of the sight of the original town of Plymouth. It is located three miles south and one and one half miles west of the current town of Plymouth, Nebraska in Jefferson County. It is a very tranquil setting on a hillside overlooking bottom land bordered with trees. It is a very old cemetery and many of the stones are unreadable. Rubbings were necessary to obtain some information. George Kissel is thought to be the first person buried in the cemetery though there is no stone. It is said that he died in a sand cave-in. Five Civil War Veterans are buried in the cemetery. Eliza Ewing has a marker beside her headstone indicating she was a member of the Women’s Relief Corps. There is also a veteran of the Spanish American War buried here. His name was Cyrus Abbott. Beverly Abbott Have obituary 1897 - 1902 Cora Abbott Have Obituary 1874 - 1900 Cyrus Abbott Co. K. 3 NEB.
