Dorothy Marie Gerken, 90, died Oct. 17, 2009 Homestead Rehabilitation Center in
Lincoln.

Funeral services will be held at the Community Church in Wilcox at 2:00 p.m.,
Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 with Pastor Craig Cedar officiating.

Interment will be at the Wilcox cemetery. 

Visitation will be will be Friday from noon until 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home in
Wilcox and before the service at the church on Saturday.

She leaves to mourn her passing her two daughters, Carol (Kenneth) Meyers of
rural Wilcox and Lori (Charles) Thomas of Lincoln; her son Robert “Bob” (Joyce)
Gerken of Lincoln; her brother William “Bill” (Kay) Davis of Los Alamos, Calif.;
five grandchildren, Nikole Meyers (Kelly) Schubauer of Plattsmouth, Ashley
Meyers of Bellevue, Courtney Meyers of La Vista, and Ciara and Sheridan Thomas,
both with their parents in Lincoln; one great grandchild Emerson Elizabeth
Schubauer at home with her parents as well as other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her father on Sept.
20, 1975; her mother on March 25, 1977; and two sisters, her older sister Ruthie
who passed away in 1918 at the age of one year and her younger sister Mrs.
Darlene Hayward and her husband Troy.

Mrs. Dorothy Marie Gerken was born the second child of four children to William
Hugh Davis and Mrs. Amelia  (Krauss) Davis on Aug. 16, 1919 at Wilcox. 
 
Dorothy attended schools at Wilcox where she graduated from high school with the
class of 1938.  Following high school she was employed in Lexington and later in
Chicago, Ill., as a nanny. 
 
On April 4, 1946 Miss Dorothy Marie Davis was united in marriage to Warren
Willard Gerken at the Methodist Church in Lexington.  To this union three
children were born, Carol Jean, Robert Hugh, and Lori Ann.  The family farmed
and resided on a farm north east of Eustis.  Warren and Dorothy retired from
farming in 1985 and moved to Lexington.  They moved from Lexington to Wilcox in
March of 2002 and to the Waterford at Williamsburg Assisted Living in Lincoln in
August of 2003. Her husband Warren preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 2003. 
Dorothy had resided in the Homestead Rehabilitation Center since Feb. 29, 2008.  

Dorothy had been baptized at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege. 

She had maintained her membership in the Berean Fundamental Church at Lexington
where she was also active in the Ladies Fellowship.  She was also a former
member of an extension club at Eustis.
