Brother Howe, city missionary, Lincoln: "It is cold as winter out here, and I am solicity for supplies for some poor families; I have concluded to write you for aid. The hail last July utterly destroyed crops of all kinds for miles wide and many long, causing much need of all family supplies for food and clothing. What some families will do I can't see or say. Suffering is now upon them. I preach in a belt of that destitution and know what I say. Can you send me some supplies for such needy families, such as you may have to distribute. I would be glad to aid some families a little. Some farmers who can go ten to fifteen and twenty miles for fodder for stock. If a hard winter much suffering for man and many beasts must of necessity be endured. Boxes or sacks sent to Dix will be gratefully received and distributed. The state can do nothing, as it has no funds donated to such purposes--so says the governor. Charity, charity, much of need. If possible I know you will aid in this endeavor. I have a circuit this year, also "Kimball and Potter." Fraternally yours, A. R.
