Ames was born at Lincoln, Nebraska, June 14 1875, and has lived in the state since that time. He has been engaged in the active practice of law at Lincoln, since 1898. His father, John Henry Ames, who was a lawyer and supreme court counsellor, was born in Vermont, of English descent, February 12, 1847, and died at Lincoln, January 18, 1911. His mother was born in Ohio, July 26, 1840, and died at Lincoln. Her ancestry was Dutch and English. Mr. Ames was graduated from the Lincoln High School in 1892. He was granted his A. B. degree, 1896, and A. M., 1898, at the University of Nebraska where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi, Phi Delta Phi, and Theta Nu Epsilon. He has been a practicing lawyer since his graduation from college and was United States Referee in Bankruptcy. He is now vice president and actuary of the Bankers Life Insurance Company of Nebraska. Politically, he is an independent. He was married to Grace Alsyne Andrews at Fairbury, Nebraska, October 3, 1907. Mrs. Ames was born at Ann Arbor, Michigan, November 29, 1880, of English descent. There are two children, John Henry, born January 12, 1911; and Margaret Capron, born January 21, 1909. Mr. Ames is a member of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. He holds a fellowship in the American Institute of Actuaries. He is a member of the Masons, Blue Lodge Chapter at Lincoln, Nebraska. He is a member of the Lincoln University Club; Lincoln Country Club; and the Crucible Club. His sports are hiking and fishing, and his hobbies reading and photography. Residence: Lincoln.
