He was born at St. Paul, January 4, 1891, son of Ernest Irving and Pearl Josephine (Waite) Andrews. Ernest Andrews was born at Woodstock, Maine, December 5, 1864. He is a banker, and served as chairman of the Howard County Liberty Bond committee in 1918. Of English ancestry, his father’s father, J. F. Andrews came from England and settled in Maine in early days. Pearl Waite Andrews was born at Nashua, Iowa, October 4, 1868, descended from the Welsh family of Waites. She is a member and has been state officer in the Order of Eastern Star. Dr. Andrews was graduated from the St. Paul High School in 1907, and received a Ph. G. from Creighton University in 1909. In 1916 he received his M. D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and in 1923 was awarded the degree of Master of Science in Surgery from the University of Minnesota. During 1910-12 he attended the University of Nebraska. He was president in 1916 of the Deaver Surgical Society at the University of Pennsylvania, and his fraternities are Delta Upsilon and Phi Rho Sigma. He served with the rank of first lieutenant Medical Corps, with the 134th Infantry, 34th Division, 1917-19, in France 10 months at Base Hospital No. 93, and with the 7th Division. He is a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and lieutenant commander of the U. S. Naval Reserve. On August 28, 1919, he was married to Mildred Rae Wells at New York City. Mrs. Andrews was born at Stanton Nebraska, April 27, 1895. They have one son, David I., born February 8, 1923. The family attends Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Dr. Andrew’s professional career is as follows: member of the Army Medical Corps 1917-19; surgical fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, 1919-1923; since 1923 practiced in Lincoln. He is chairman of the surgical section at Lincoln General Hospital, attending surgeon at Bryan Memorial Hospital, surgeon Iowa-Nebraska Light and Power Company and the Northern Gas Company. A fellow in the American College of Surgeons, he is also a member of the State and American Medical Associations. He is treasurer of the Lancaster County Medical Society, ex-resident physician at Mayo Clinic, etc. Dr. Andrews has contributed numerous articles on surgery to various state and national magazines. He is a Scottish Rite Mason, Knight Templar and shriner, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club the University and Lincoln Country Clubs. His sport is golf and his hobby philately.
