Aydelotte, one of Nebraska’s outstanding musicians and musical educators, was born at Bradshaw, York County, Nebraska, March 22, 1888. Her father, Christopher Owings, who was born in Randolph County, Missouri, November 15, 1847, was a lumber dealer and stockman; he was a soldier in the Civil War. His ancestry was German, Irish and Scotch. He died at Hot Springs, South Dakota, February 1, 1912. Her mother, Barbara Ann (Roller) Owings, whose ancestry was German, was born at Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana, January 28, 1852, and died at Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska, October 29, 1929. Mrs. Aydelotte was graduated from the high school at Bethany, Nebraska. She received her B. M. degree in voice and piano at the University School of Music, and in 1921, was a post graduate student at this institution. She studied with William Shakespeare in Chicago, 1922-23; and in 1926 took a special course in directorship at Chautauqua Lake. Her B.F.A. degree was granted by the University School of Music, 1922. She was elected to membership in Mu Phi Epsilon, honorary musical sorority. She has organized several musical companies, among them: Aydelotte Eight; Aydelotte Peppers; Big Four Quartette; Merry Makers Chorus. She has composed several songs and musical reviews and literary articles. She has been instructor in the University of Nebraska Conservatory of Music since 1921. She was married at Lincoln, June 3, 1904, to George C. Aydelotte. They have one son, Donald, born December 30, 1906. Since 1917 Mrs. Aydelotte has been Republican committeewoman in her district. She was captain and treasurer of the Red Cross drive during the late war, and was awarded a medal for service to the nation. She is a member of the Women’s Relief Corps and A. N. S. W. V. She is a member of the Lincoln Woman’s Club and the Nebraska Music Teachers’ Association. She was made past matron, 1918-19, and in 1920 grand organist of Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. From 1918 to 1920 Mrs. Aydelotte served as president of the Bethany Woman’s Club. She is active in Young Women’s Christian Association work and has traveled extensively over the United States and Canada in Chautauqua work. She is a member of Bethany Christian Church. She is fond of tennis and golf. Mrs. Aydelotte made one trip to the Panama Canal during the time it was being constructed, with a musical company. Residence: Lincoln.
