Gertrude A. "Trudy" (Spenner) Beard, passed away peacefully, surrounded by 
family, on Thursday (12/9/10) at the Independence House memory care home where 
she had lived for the past year. Born October 5, 1928 to Carl and Caroline 
Spenner in Beemer, Neb. Trudy enjoyed early careers as a model, airline 
stewardess, and telephone operator, as well as positions at Lincoln Steel and 
the Nebraska State Historical Society. She dedicated herself to her family, 
friends, and church; she was a talented seamstress and bridge player, an avid 
booster for her grandchildren's sports and music pursuits, Junior League 
member, past Sustainer President, and longtime greeter at the Cathedral of the 
Risen Christ.

Preceded in death by husband James W. Beard. Survived by daughters, sons-in-
law Elizabeth and Daniel Nelson, Susan and Rick Lange; grandchildren, Dylan 
and Wyatt Nelson, Elizabeth, James and Katharine Lange; sisters Clara (and 
Eddie) Kluthe, Frances Van Buskirk, Martha Kluthe, Mary Schweitzer; brothers 
Deacon Art Spenner, Gilbert (and Benilda) Spenner, Bernard (and Pam) Spenner; 
numerous nieces and nephews.

Rosary, 6:30 p.m., Friday 12/17/2010 Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 
A Street. No visitation. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, 12/18/2010 10 
a.m., Cathedral of the Risen Christ. Interment and luncheon immediately 
following at Lincoln Memorial Park, 3800 So. 14th St. Memorials to: Cathedral 
of the Risen Christ, 3500 Sheridan Blvd., Lincoln, NE 68506 or Independence 
House at Mandarin, 4610 Mandarin Circle, Lincoln, NE 68516.
