A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at the Milford United Methodist Church with Pastor Todd Karges officiating. There will be no visitation or interment. A luncheon following the service will be held at Pizza Kitchen in Milford. Brian was born on Dec. 24, 1955 in Lincoln, to Carl and Geraldine Bennett. Brian grew up in Seward. As a child he was a Boy Scout and throughout school he enjoyed cross-country and wrestling. He graduated with the Seward High School Class of 1974. He attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for his undergraduate education. He graduated in the top 20 percent of his class and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1981. Brian practiced law and raised his two children in Milford. On Dec. 7, 1996, he married Tina Johnson in Denton, and added three stepchildren to the family. He continued his law practice until 2000. Brian had a passion for education, and was a member of the Milford school board for many years. After he closed his law practice he taught in Schuyler, finished his master’s degree in education from the University of Nebraska, and became the business manager for Lexington Public Schools. He continued his education and graduated in May 2009 with a superintendent certificate. Brian was a member of the Lexington United Methodist Church, and on the board of trustees. Throughout his life he served the community in many ways, including Milford and Lexington Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, and coaching recreational softball and wrestling. He is survived by his wife, Tina Bennett, Lincoln; son Nathan (Heather) Bennett, Reno, Nev.; daughter Kara (Anthony) Jacobsen, Utica; stepson Matthew (Jessica) Johnson, Lincoln; stepdaughter Amber (Robert) Brannan, Lincoln; stepson, Patrick Johnson, Lincoln; grandsons, Holden Jacobsen, Joaquin Brannan; mother and stepfather, Geraldine and Loren Bennett, Lincoln; sister, Jeannie Bennett, Lincoln, and brothers, Michael and Les Bennett. He leaves behind many wonderful aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly.
