Brooks, age 71, of Lincoln, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Lincoln. There will be no viewing or visitation. Inurnment will be at Wyuka Cemetery at a later date. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Susan; a son, Jeff (Jennifer) Brooks of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughters Kristi (Jeff) Stinnette and Jennifer Brooks and granddog, Bond the Beagle, all of Lincoln; grandchildren, Elise, Owen and Ethan at home in Colorado Springs; Chase and Devan at home in Lincoln; brothers, Douglas (Betty) Brooks of Denver; Bill Brooks of Cambridge; sisters, Vicki Brooks of Potosi, Mo., Renee Botts of Lexington; brothers-in-law Stan (Marty) Carlson of Holdrege, Stuart (Anne) Carlson of Palm Desert, Calif.; sister-in-law Elaine (Bud) Exstrom of York and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joan Morris and a baby sister that was born at rest. Ron was born July 27, 1938 in Columbus Junction, Iowa to Orville and Beulah (Urling) Brooks. He graduated from Kearney State College and was U.S. Navy veteran during the Korean War, stationed on the submarine USS Spinax-SS489. He married Susan Anne Carlson in Holdrege on Sept. 9, 1967. Ron worked as a systems analyst for the city of Lincoln for 27 years. He also worked as a Realtor for Woods Brothers Realty, a volunteer tax preparer for AARP and was employed by the Department of Homeland Security in the Census department prior to his illness.
