Vandenberg, 60, of North Platte, died Feb. 27 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte after being diagnosed with cancer a year ago. Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, March 2, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte. Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Lincoln. There will be visitation at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, Wednesday, March 3, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., before the burial. She was born Oct. 16, 1949 to Herbert Granell and Dixie Bell (Perry) Carroll in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was united in marriage to Gregory L. Vandenberg of Omaha on Oct. 15, 1977 in Ralston. The couple lived in Ralston, Lexington, and Lincoln before moving to North Platte in 1998. As a certified law enforcement officer, Nancy served the citizens of Nebraska for 36 years in several capacities: communications specialist, Bellevue PD and Sarpy County SO; police officer, Ralston and Lexington; deputy sheriff, Sarpy and Dawson Counties; NEOC investigator, Lincoln; State Patrol field intelligence representative, North Platte. Nancy especially enjoyed the companionship of her many pets and sharing the fruits of her silversmithing talents with others. She will be remembered by those who knew her as a loving and devoted wife, a loyal and supportive sister, and a committed and caring friend and co-worker throughout a life rich with grace and dignity. Nancy is survived by her husband, Greg; two sisters, Gwendolyn Fooshee of New Albany, Miss., and Billie Hughes of Pineville, La; two brothers, Grady Carroll of Aurora, Colo., and Anthony Carroll of Augusta, Ga., and seven nieces and seven nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Diane (Carroll) Rodgers.
