The funeral will be held Friday at 3 p.m. from the Vine Congregational church, Rev. M. A. Bullock officiating. Burial will be made at Wyuka. Mrs. Hoagland was born in Somerset, N. J. in 1823, and would have been ninety-three years of age May 6. Her husband, W. V. Hoagland, died fourteen years ago at the age of eighty-seven. They moved from Illinois to Lincoln about thirty years ago and took an active part in the struggles of the early settlers. In her younger years Mrs. Hoagland was skilful as a nurse and her services were in great demand. These services were freely given and under no circumstances would she accept remuneration. In the pioneer days doctors were scarce and the skilled nurse held a high place. She always retained her interest in current events in spite of her advanced years, and delighted in reading the newspapers, which she did without the aid of glasses. Mrs. Hoagland took much pride in her large family, of which nine of the eleven children are still living. Their bringing up was not a small task in the days before sewing machines and modern conveniences, but it was one which she did thoroughly and with enjoyment. There are twenty-four grandchildren and twenty five great grandchildren. For many years they have all made a practice of assembling and Mrs. Hoagland'd home for a family reunion at Christmas, an event which was looked forward to from one holiday season to the next. The children living are: Henry V. Hoagland of Lincoln, J. S. Hoagland of North Platte, Mrs. Sarah Tunnell of Verden, Ill.; Richard Hoagland of Minatare, Mrs. Libbie Loughbridge of Lincoln, William Hoagland of Central City, Mrs. Nettie Bagley of Lincoln, J. W. Hoagland of Holt county and Miss Susie Hoaglalnd of Lincoln. About two months ago Mrs. Hoagland suffered a severe fall and since that time had gradually failed.
