Dick Receive Legacies Left by Grandfather. From Saturday's Daily. A big long envelope was received by Mrs. Ella A. Dick of this city yesterday morning and the contents thereof were such as would cause gratification to anyone who should be fortunate enough to get a similar missive. The letter was from Levi M. Scott, a lawyer of Greensboro, N. C., and the message which it brought was that a sum of money realized from the sale of lands belonging to the estate of John M. Dick only awaited her order to be divided among her five children, Parthenia, John, Leslie, Anna and Robert. John M. Dick, grandfather of the children, died in 1865 and the property which he left has been tied up in the courts ever since, in such a manner that no disposition of it could be made. The estate comprised some tracts of land and a sum of money which had been drawing interest for many years. The land was recently sold and the proceeds, according to the will and the decision of the North Carolina courts, will be divided as follows: Miss Anna M. Dick, daughter of the legator, receives half of the amount and the other half is to be divided equally among the children of her brother, the late Dr. Frederick M. Dick of this city, who died in 1896. The amount of the legacy which each of the children of Dr. Dick will receive is $315.08, a total of $1, 575.40. As the first two named have reached their majority their shares will be directly to them. The money for the other three children will be sent to Mrs. Ellen A. Dick, their mothe3r, as soon as the necessary papers showing her appointment as guardian, together with the bond, are filed at Greensboro. The cash fund belonging to the estate now aggregates from $35,000 to $40,000, in addition to the proceeds from the land sales. This money will probably be divided in the same way as the other, which will give each of Dr. Dick's childr3en a fortune of from $4,000 to $5,000. It is possible, however, that this fund may remain in litigation for some time to come. The Dick family take their good fortune modestly. They do not intend to leave North Platte, but on the contrary will invest their money here.
