John Taffe, once congressman from this state, has received the appointment of receiver for the U.S. Land Office at North Platte. Major Taffe, is one of the early settlers of Nebraska, and one of the most popular men in it. He is an old friend of Northern Nebraska, and when others at Omaha worked the hardest to cripple our prospects, major was true to us. We congratulate North Platte upon its good fortune in securing so able and efficient a gentleman to fill this important position, and the many friends of Mr. Taffe wish him well---Nebraska Pioneer.
