Bedell finally succumbs to the grim monster, and passed away last Friday night at eleven o'clock. A little more than a year ago the doctor discovered that he had cancer of the descending colon and eve then realized the seriousness of the malady, and predicted his death in about one year, that being the longest that such cases usually run. However, Dr. Bedell being of a naturally robust constitution put up such a fight for life as but very few could make, and in March of last year he went to Omaha where Dr. Allison prep- ared to operate on him and made the incision, but considered the case hopeles and gave it up. Mr. Bedel then went to Chicago and put himself in the hands of a specialist who could but try. He suffered intensely during his illness. The deceased was born at Athens MO., March 19, 1862 graduated from the Medical College at Keokuk, Ia. and followed successfully his profession, first at Denver and Lemara, Colo., and came to North Platte in 1895. He was married in Jan. 1900 to Miss Nellie Austin of this city. Besides a large number of fast friends he leaves a wife and son, and one son by a former marriage. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from St. Patrick's church and was largely attended, the several lodges of which he was a member being well represented, being the A O U W, K O. T M A O O P, M, L and Court of Honor in which orders he carried insurance policies. In the untimely death of Dr. Bedell the city looses one of its foremost citizens and progressive physicians. The many friend lend sincere sympathy to Mrs. Bedell who accompanied her husband on his trips to Omaha and Chicago and was a close attendant during his long illness.
