NORTH PLATTE, Neb., Sept. 19--(Special)--The funeral services over the remains of Private Harry E. Brown, company E, Second regiment, Nebraska volunteers, were held in the opera house here today. Private Brown died a few days ago in the Sternberg hospital at Chickamauga, and his parents had his remains sent home for interment. Nearly all of company E members were home on furlough and assisted in the burial of their comrade. This was the largest funeral ever held in North Platte. The large opera house was packed full and the territory and streets around the opera house were full of people who could not crowd into the hall. The services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Beecher of the Episcopal church. The body was escorted to the opera house and from there to the cemetery by the Gordon cornet band, company E, the members of the G. A. R., the Woman's Relief corps, the Sons of the Veterans and the Hamilton ladies cadets in uniform. The services at the grave were simple and military, and were closed by the sounding of "Taps" by company E. This is the second death in North Platte from the war. The first was Private William Jeffers of the Third regiment, who was buried here last week. Private Brown was one of four brothers enlisting in the same company. The other three are home, the youngest returning from the hospital at Chickamauga Friday evening, not learning of his brother's fate until he arrived home. Another member of company E, Private Deats, is lying very low at his home in this city. He is gradually and constantly getting weaker and doctors say that his recovery is very doubtful.
