EBRIGHT DIES TODAY William Ebright, 88, former Lincoln county superintendent and former superintendent of the North Platte city schools, died at 9:05 o'clock this morning in his farm home, three miles west of the state farm, following a lingering illness. Born May 28, 1853 in Pennsylvania he had lived in North Platte since 1896. He served as superintendent of schools in Beatrice from 1883 until 1893 and superintendent of the School fo the Blind at Nebaska City from 1893 until 1896. From 1896 until 1900 he was superintendent of the North Platted City Schools and following that time was county superintendent of Lincoln county schools. He later retired and moved to the farm where he resided until his death. He was a member of Platte Valley Lodge A. F. & A. M. and several years ago received his 50 year membership pin. Surviving are two sons, Loy of North Platte, and Dr. Oak Ebright who is superintendent of Tabitha Home at Lincoln; two daughters, Mrs. Joy Christianson of North Platte and Mrs. Bess Mylander. ------------------------------------------------------------ The North Platte (Neb) Daily Bulletin Sat Dec 20, 1941 William Ebright Dies Yesterday Funeral arrangements for William Ebright, 88, who died yesterday aat his farm home, three miles west of the state farm, were incomplete last evening. The remains are at the Adams Funeral home. Surviving are two sons, Roy [sic] of North Platte and Dr. Oak Ebright of Lincoln; two daughters, Mrs. Joy Christianson of North Platte and Mrs. Bess Mylander of Spokane, Wash. Mr. Ebright was formerly superintendent of city schoolls here and later county superintendent of schools. ---------------------------------------------------------- The Lincoln County Tribune Thur Dec 25, 1941 City and County News Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Lutheran church for William Ebright, with Rev. G. Kellar Rubrecht officiating. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Tramp, Mrs. John Soltow and A. T. Yos accompanied by Mrs. Emil Seller san "Asleep in Jesus" and "Abide With Me." Pall bearers were Hosmer Doolittle, Clyde McKain, John Reflor, Leonard Rowley and Oscar and Charles Sandall. The committal service was in charge of the Masonic lodge at the local cemetery. _______________________________ William Ebright passed away at his farm home Friday. A native Pennsylvania he was born May 28, 1853 and had been a resident here since 1896. Mr. Ebright was a prominent figure in the city and county schools during the late 1800's and early 1900's. He is survived by his daughters Mrs. Joy Christensen of this city; Mrs. Bess Mylander, of Spokane Wash., and his sons Dr. Oak Ebright of Lincoln and Loy Ebrigt of this city. ---------------------------------------------------------- North Platte (NEB) Daily Telegraph Wed Dec 31, 1941 page 5 OBITUARY WILLIAM EBRIGHT was born in Northumberland County, Pa., May 28h 1853, the son of John and Mary (Shipman) Ebright. When he was two and one-half years old the family moved to Ogle County, Illinois, settling near Ilaldane, where he grew to manhood. He was baptized as a baby in Pennsylvania and was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Brookville, three miles from their hom. He was educated first in a country school; then in the Mt. Morris Seminary, Mt. Morris, ILL.; he took his college wok in Carthage College graduating with his A B degree in 1881 and is Master's degree in 1883, being valedictorian of his class. For two years he was the professor of foreign languages in Carthage College. On June 1st, 1882 was united in marriage to Ida Hoffhine. To this union was born four children. For eight years the family lived in Beatrice where Mr. Ebright was superintendent of the public schools. He also served for two and one-half years as superintendent for the State Institution for the Blind in Nebraska City. In 1896 Mr. Ebright moved his family to North Platte where he filled the position of superintendent of the city schools. With his family they were very active in First Lutheran church, he was a member of the church council for many years. He was also superintendent of the Sunday school and choir director. He was in charge of the U. S. Census of 1900 fo North Platte when the population of the city was around 3,000. In 1900 the Ebright family moved to the farm southwest of North Platte. Later Mr. Ebright returned to school work and became county superintendent for three terms. From this office he retired on the farm where he lived the remainder of his life. Mrs. Ebright departed this life two years ago last February. He died Friday morning, December 19, 1941 at the age of 88 years, six months and 21 days. Surviving are two sons, Loy E. Ebright of this city, and Rev. Oak Ebright d.d. of Lincoln, superintendent of Tibetha Home; two daughters, Mrs. Joy Christensen who had been living at home with her father, and Mrs. Homer Mylander of Spokane, Wash., also two sisters one in Lincoln and one at Peabody, Kan., 13 grand- children and seven great grandchildren. Interment was in the North Platte cemetery beside the wife.
