Fletcher, age 89, of North Platte, died Feb.12, 2010 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. Christian Wake Services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010 at the Adams and Swanson Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rev. James Golka as celebrant. Burial will be at the Wellfleet Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010 from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m at the Adams and Swanson funeral home. She was born on July 26, 1920 at her grandparent’s home west of Wellfleet to Ellis W. and Flora E. (Young) Howard. When she was very young, her father died. Her mother remarried to Bill Hamer and they raised her in the Wellfleet area. On July 30, 1938, she married Earnest Fletcher in Wellfleet. To this union, five children were born. The couple lived north of Wellfleet where they farmed. Fern was a member of St Williams Catholic Church for 33 years. She was also active in bringing baked goods to the North Platte Canteen during WWII. In 1972 Fern moved to Lexington where she worked for Hellman’s for two years, then worked for the Lexington Hospital for 10 years. She retired in July of 1984 and moved back to North Platte. In North Platte she was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, was always helping people in need, cleaned houses, visited the sick, was a member of RSVP, and also called for the bloodmobile for over 10 years. Fern did lots of canning and baking and shared it with family when they came. Survivors include her children, Ellis (Carolee) of Wells, Minn., Regis (Kendra) of North Platte, Charles of Lexington, Catherine (Doug) Harris of Lexington, and Bob (Dee) of North Platte; 14 grandchildren, 33 great- grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Harriet Fletcher of Lexington and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father; her brother, George (Mary) Howard; and a brother-in-law, John (Melvina) Fletcher; step-brother, Charles Hamer; two grandsons, Jeff Fletcher, and Perry Samuel Fletcher; and ex- husband, Earnest Fletcher; and special friend, Lee Gilbert.
