(Irene) Bystrom, all North Platte, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren. See story Page 7. Page 7 Mary Neville, 97, former Nebraska First Lady, dies Former Nebraska First Lady Mary Neville, 97, died Friday in North Platte. Her late husband, Keith Neville, became Nebraska's youngest governor in 1917. The Nevilles entertained President Theodore Roosevelt, who visited Nebraska on its 50th birthday in 1917. Born in Charles Town, W. Va., Aug. 5, 1883, "Marie," as she was known to her friends, attended Stevenson's Female Seminary, Charles Town, and Gunston Hall in Washington, D. C. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and founded the North Platte chapter of the Children of the American Revolution. She was active in Chapter EB of P.E.O., the Episcopal Church of Our Savior, American Legion Auxillary, Madona Auxiliary of St. Mary's Hospital and was a charter member of the New Great Plains Medical Center Auxiliary. She belonged to the North Platte Woman's Club, the Pass-a-Grille Women's Club, the Pass-a-Grille Yacht Club, a life member of the Lincoln County Historical Society, a founder and patron of the Community Playhouse and the Democratic Century Club, the Democratic Women of Lincoln County and was active in many other local, civi and church affairs. Mrs. Neville is survived by four daughters, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Services were Monday at Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, North Platte. In 1963 she was chosen as 25th "Mother of the Year" for North Platte and in 1976 was honored by the governor of Nebraska and the Nebraska Bicentennial Committee of the American Mothers Association. She was also listed as "A Notable Living Nebraskan" in the Bicentennial book, Outstanding Women of Nebraska 1776-1976. Survivors include four daughters, Mary Sieman, Frances Newberry, Virginia Robertson and Irene Bystrom, all of North Platte; eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
