Many men now prominent as railroad officials of this country acquired their knowledge of practical railroading from Mr. Singleton. He was always successful in handling men and every man in the service of the Union Pacific whether it was the President or the humblest man always had a good word for John Singleton. Under his management the Railroad terminal at North Platte was known as the most efficient on the system. In 1909 on accounty of advanced age and efficient service he was granted a pension by the railroad company and since then has traveled for his health, spending a good deal of his time in Los Angeles and Long Beach, California. He and his family were members of the Presbyterian church of North Platte. Last summer Mr. Singleton became quite ill and went to Rochester, Minn. and was operated on at the Mayo Hospital.
