Lower left, Austin Bedell, whose portrait painting has won recognition in art circles. [photos can be seen listed under photos page] It was shortly after Austin Bedell went to Vienna that he met the Baroness Ceceial Klarise, and it was shortly after he met her that he married her, for, as the little baroness says in a bit of American slang she has learned from her American husband "these Americans are fast workers." Austin Bedell was born and reared in North Platte. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. C. V. Bedell, but his father died in infancy, and his mother is now the wife of E. F. Seeberger of North Plate. For one so young his experience and education in art has been quite broad. For a short time Mr. Bedell attended the University of Nebraska, but was unhappy. His stepfather then suggested that he enter Creighton law school, which he did and was still unhappy. Seeing that the boy was not satisfied with his work, Mr. Seeberger asked him just what he would like to do, and the answer was "study art." Request No Surprise As a child his love for art, and his great talent were well known to his family, so the request was by no mens an unusual on. The first art school he attended was in Chicago. Then in 1924 he went abroad to study. His first European teacher was Marquise Sartonia of Florence, and later he studied in Paris, Rome and the Vienna art academy. It was while he was a student in the Vienna academy that he met the Baroness Ceceial, who is also an artist, and whose work in designing art windows is well known in Europe. She has designed many cathedral windows and some of them may be found in Philadelphia. It seems as though the meeting took place at a studio party, or at least some gathering of art students. He expressed a desire to visit one of the art galleries the next day, and asked the baroness if she would accompany him as a guide and interpreter. She was rather reluctant in giving her consent, because, in Vienna, baronesses do not accompany strange young men on art gallery tours, or any other kind for that matter. But her interest in the young student over balanced her ideas of convention, so she went. Shortly after that she married him. Married at Bride's Home The wedding took place at Schottenhof, the home of the bride's mother, where her family have lived for generations. Mrs. Bedell was born in Budapest, but has always lived in Vienna. Mr. and Mrs. Bedell maintain their own studio in Vienna. Her principal work is the designing of art windows, and his is portrait painting. Just now he is painting the portrait of the son of te Austrian consul to Egypt. When their studies are finished, and all of the commissions they now have on hand are completed, Mr. Bedell and his very attractive wife will come to the States. This will probable be some time in 1929. Tiffany and company, of New York, has offered Mrs. Bedell a splendid position, and, as she is deeply interestedin her work, she may accept it. During her summer abroad, Bess Gearhart Morrison met the youthful artist and his wife, and is very enthusiastic over the work they are doing. Mr. Bedell did a pencil drawing of Mrs. Morrison which was very effective, but which could not be reproduced because of the lightness of line.
