Brennan gave Mrs. Evelyn Pasternack of Poplar St., Brooklyn, and uncomfortable five minutes in Supreme Cour, Brooklyn, last week before he signed a divorce decree freeing Mrs. Gertrude E. Bedell. Mrs. Bedell, who lives in West End Ave., Manhattan, asked a divorce from Austin E. Bedell, who married her in Vienna in 1926, but from whom she had been separated for three years. Mrs. Pasternack told of finding Bedell with a woman in the upper floor of her duplex apartment, which he had rented, on Jan 5. She said the woman had been with Bedell on other occasions. She thought they were engaged, she said. "You knew they were not married and yet you permitted them to spend nights together." Justice Brennan said. After several more questions Justice Brennan permitted Mrs. Pasternack, to leave the stand. ------------------------------------------------------ The Brooklyn Daily Eagle Sun Apr 28, 1935 pg 11 Divorce Granted to Mrs. A. E. Bedell Supreme Court Justice Philip A. Brennan yesterday granted an inerlocutory degree of divorce to Mrs. Gertrude E. Bedell of 365 West End Ave. Manhattan from her husband Austin E. Bedell. The couple were married Aug. 14, 1926 in Vienna. They have been separated for about 2 years. The chief witness in the case was Mrs. Evelyn Pasternach of 64 Poplar St., who testified that she rented Mr. Bedell the upper half of her duplex apartment. On Jan 5. she said, Mrs. Bedell arrived and said it was an emergency, she must see her husband. Mrs. Pasternach said that when they got upstairs they found Mr. Bedell in pajamas and an unnamed woman in a negligee. "Did you know Mr. Bedell had a woman there?" Justice Brennan demanded. "I thought the Bedells were divorced." Mrs. Pasternach replied.
