She tells the court that she married Joseph on September 17, 1889 but he never provided her with a home of her own. Instead he took her to his mother's hours, and six months afterwards her mother-in-law got warm and drove her away. She says also that he has been raking in large gobs of wealth as salary, and never supported her. She asks for the custody of their child, a nice little red-sealed decree and alimony. _________________ Lincoln Journal Star Fri May 6, 1892 Annie Kubanek tells the court that her husband Joseph, from whom she wants a divorce is raking in $65 a month from Pace, Williams & North, and she asks that she be given a portion thereof to support her and their child. The Nebraska State Journal Thur Dec 15, 1892 Matrimonial Wreckage Anna Kubanek was allowed $25 a month temporary alimony and $25 attorney fees from her husband, Joseph and Caroline Russell got $20 a month and $25 attorney fees from her defending husband, Samuel. Jeannette Cheever was granted a divorce from her husband James W. Cheever, on the grounds of extreme cruelty, desertion and failure to support. She was granted the custody of the three minor children, Leonard, Lulu and Ellsworth. Mary D. Graves was likewise set free, her present ex-husband's name being Samuel D. Graves or Samuel D. Smith, according to circumstances and locality. The grounds were desertion and the lack of support, with a little cruelty thrown in extra. The Nebraska State Journal Tue Jan 31, 1893 Annie Kubanek in her reply to Joseph Kubanek's answer, says that Joseph is traversing the realms of fiction when he says that he had offered her a good home. She states that in 1890 she was willing to forgive Joseph if he would brace up and act white, but adds that she considers two years a sufficient time in which to reform. In regard to Joe's allegation that he had presented her with $40 once as a Christmas present, she says if he did so it was without her knowledge, and the reply ends with the startling statment that $30, a pair of shoes and a pair of slippers are all that Joseph has given her for two years any over.
