He has been a resident of Otoe County since 1859, his family having moved here from his native state. His father, Richard Arends, was born in 1810, and died on his homestead near Syracuse, in 1874. His wife, Mary Teten, died on January 19, 1898. Mr. Arends was educated in country schools, and has been a farmer all his life. He was married to Lizza Kastner in Otoe County on November 4, 1880. Mrs. Arends died on February 19, 1898. There are seven children, Mary, Leta, Alma, Dora, Richard, Libby and Irena. During his entire life Mr. Arends has been active in the affairs of his community. He is a member of the Lutheran Church, and takes an interested part in the development of his locality. In addition to the homestead upon which he lives he is an extensive property owner and is looked up to and respected throughout the county. Residence: Talmage.
