Wilber William Aten

Wilber William Aten, who has been engaged in the real estate and farm loan
business at Holdrege, Nebraska, for many years was born at Rushville, Illinois,
December 19, 1871. His father, John Calvin Aten, a farmer, was born in
Pennsylvania, of Scotch parentage, September 1, 1842, and died at Ragan,
Nebraska, March 19, 1925. Isabelle Trimble, his mother, was born in Scotland, in
January, 1846, and was an active church and Sunday School worker for many years;
she died at Ragan, September 29, 1926.

Mr. Aten came to Ragan, where he was a farmer and stock shipper, also owned a
butcher shop, and was interested in elevators until 1911. He moved to Cozad, in
1912, into Missouri, in 1913, came back to Nebraska, April 5, 1916, locating at
Holdrege, and since that time has been one of the most important civic leaders
in this section of the state.

He deals in insurance, farm loans and real estate at Holdrege, is a member of
the Chamber of Commerce and holds membership in the Red Cross, Salvation Army,
and the Methodist Episcopal Church. His social club is the Holdrege Country
Club. A Republican, he is serving as county chairman and state committeeman of
that party.

He was united in marriage with Eliza Elizabeth Stremmel, at Rushville, Illinois,
November 17, 1892. Mrs. Aten, who was a teacher and seamstress before her
marriage, was born at Rushville, July 15, 1871. Their children are: Florence,
born April 4, 1896, who married John Langford Gilmore; Wilber, born May 19,
1903, who married Irma Yolanda Hulquist; and Paul, born October 6, 1911. Wilber
is a prominent attorney at Holdrege. Paul is a sophomore in the University of
Nebraska. Residence: Holdrege.
