Funeral Services will be held at the Christian Homes Chapel in Holdrege on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain DeWane Dow and Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Sumner Cemetery at Sumner. There will be no public visitation, the family is honoring Juanita’s wish of a closed casket. Juanita was born Feb. 6, 1918 at Valley Center, Kan., the third of five children of Elbert Lawrence and Olive Ann (Ruddick) Searles. She received her education in rural Dawson County. On March 11, 1939 she was united in marriage to Harold Arthur Eberle at Kearney and to this union three children were born: Dean, Janet and Karen. The couple engaged in farming and ranching in Dawson County near Sumner until their retirement in 1982. Juanita focused on raising their family and worked side-by-side on the farm with Harold. Following their retirement, Harold and Juanita made their home in Mesa, Ariz., from 1982 until 2007. During their retirement years, the couple enjoyed traveling on cruises together throughout the world. In 2007, Harold and Juanita returned to Nebraska and made their home at Chrisoma West in Holdrege. Family was always foremost of importance in her life, especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold on Nov. 2, 2007. Juanita was a member of the Sumner Evangelical Free Church, where she was active with the women’s groups and taught Sunday school. During their time in Arizona the couple were members of the First Church of the Nazarene in Mesa and in later years attended the Broadway Christian Church in Mesa. She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Dean (Jean) Eberle of Sumner; two daughters: Janet (Cal) Elliott of Spring Branch, Texas and Karen (Gary) Idt of Yankton, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great- grandchildren; brother, Clyde Searles of Sun City, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Cyril Weidner of Mesa, Ariz., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, Harold and her parents, Juanita was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kari Jean Eberle; two sisters, Mae Thompson and Opal Weidner and one brother, Lawrence Searles and his wife, Viola.
