Published by Centennial Book Committee - 1987 Copyright 1987 by Rock County Centennial Book Committee and Rock County Historical Society Freeman David Adams Biography Freeman David Adams was the sixth child of 10 born to Major and Roxanna Nott Adams in Ohio on May 14, 1843. The family moved to Iowa and in 1863 at the age of 20, Freeman joined the Union Army in the Civil War. He served until 1865. While in Arkansas, he married Anna Narcissus Grengeene on July 28, 1864. She was born in Little Rock, AK on April 9, 1844. They made their home in Iowa until 1878 where their first seven children were born. They moved to Cuming County, NE near West Point, where their last daughter was born in 1880. Anna and Freeman had eight children: Oliver, Celestia, Jenettie, Addie, DeEtt, Huldie, Ereatha, and Cora. Anna contacted tuberculosis and passed away on Febr. 5, 1882, leaving her young family, the oldest being 15 and the youngest 14 months. Freeman passed away at the National Sanitarium at Hot Springs, SD on Dec. 21, 1923. They are both buried in the Dewitt cemetery at Beemer, NE. About 1885, Freeman and the children moved to the Stuart, NE area. In 1887, FD married Sara Hewitt Price. They were divorced Oct. 12, 1894. On Nov. 14, 1894, FD married Mary E. Davis Carlisle. (The following January, FD's daughter, Ereatha, married Mary's son, Hal Davis). FD was always interested in horses and would be termed a horse trader. He had a horse ranch 6 miles east of Duff, Nebraska. In 1919 FD and Mary moved to Long Pine where they lived the rest of their lives. Oliver R. Adams (August 1, 1866-March 16,1868). Celestia L. Adams (Lo) ( Nov. 11, 1867-June 2, 1938. She is buried in the Duff cemetery, Rock County Ne. She was married to Ky Hewitt and later to Harvey Hewitt. Jeanette V. Adams (Net) (Oct. 17 1869-April 10, 1939). She is buried in the Stuart cemetery, Holt Co. She was married to Jessie Estes - Charles Pratt - Fred Bishop. Addie M Adams (Oct. 6, 1871-May, 1967). She was married to Evans Scott. DeEtt Adams ( 1874-1958) He was married to Amanda Maud Davis on June 3, 1897. She was the daughter of Henry H. and Mary Davis, born April 29, 1880, Maud passed away on Nov. 21, 1942. DeEtt passed away Jan. 8, 1958. Both are buried in the Duff cemetery, Rock County, wehre their six children are also buried. They had 8 children but only 2 grew to adulthood, Jud and Elmer. They lived about 3 miles east of the Duff postoffice. Huldie Adams - (1877-1877) Ereatha C. Adams (Reathie) - 1878-1929 She married Henry Harrison Davis born in Iowa on 7/30/1873, 5th child of Henry H. and Mary Davis. Ereatha and Hal had 2 boys Freeman and Henry. Hal died of pneumonia on Febr. 29, 1899 and Ereatha died Febr. 2, 1929. Cora M Adams (Nov. 21, 1880-July, 1984) She married Hubbard Boyd,. They had two children and one adopted son. She lived to be almost 104 years old. She is buried near San Diego, CA. Rock County Centennial Book (End of File)
