Published by Centennial Book Committee - 1987 Copyright 1987 by Rock County Centennial Book Committee and Rock County Historical Society John Ammon Biography John Ammon was born at Ammon's Landing, near Alton, Indiana, on November 25, 1860. He was the oldest son of Nancy Christina Ann and George Washington Ammon. In 1875 he moved with his parents to Decorah, Iowa, where he completed his schooling. He taught school and ran the Scott and Ammon Creamery there unil 1884. On June 6, 1884, he filed on a homestead and tree claim in Rock County, Nebraska. John came with his Uncle John Ammon to Rock County in 1884 and they lived at Long Lake, located 20 miles south of Newport. On November 14, 1889 he was united in marriage to Ida Estella Sybrant. Estella was born in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, to David and Rosella Sybrant, on July 25, 1864. To this union four children were born: Ben Edward, August 29, 1890; Harold Gilbert, February 15, 1892; Nancy Lucretia and a twin brother who did not survive, born on October 23, 1902. On November 14, 1939, John and Estella celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at thier home. John passed away May 1, 1943and Estella passed away on March 9, 1952. The great great grandson of John and Estella lives on their homeplace today. (End of File)
