Published by Centennial Book Committee - 1987 Copyright 1987 by Rock County Centennial Book Committee and Rock County Historical Society James Evans Harlan and Mina Sybrant Harlan Biography Mina came with her family from Pennsylvania to settle and file on a homestead. Mina was the daughter of David and Lucretia Sybrant. She was the first teacher of the Sybrant school started by her father and the school continues to be held today. Mina and James Evans Harlan were married December 2, 1891 at the home of her half-sister, Estella Ammon. Justice of the Peace, Charles Ammon, performed the ceremony. Evans and Mina's first home was a homestead near the lake on the Elmer Swanson place. Later, they traded four cows and calves to Eb Sybrant, a cousin of Mina's for a tract of land. This was the beginning of the Harlan Ranch. They lived on their ranch all of their lives. James Evans passed away in 1949 and Mina passed in 1954. They are both buried in the Sybrant Cemetary. Their children were: Ora, Elva, Ivan, and Irma. (End of File)
