Published by Centennial Book Committee - 1987 Copyright 1987 by Rock County Centennial Book Committee and Rock County Historical Society Irma Genevieve Harlan was born to Evans and Mina Harlan on September 30, 1901. Irma attended Sybrant school, then attended Chadron State Teachers College for 2 years. She taught school several years in Rock County. Her husband , Ray, came from Beldon, NE, to Rock County to work for a ranch. He met Irma while working in the Sybrant Community. They were married and went to Denton, Montana, where they ran a dairy for 3 years. they sold out the dairy and moved to Randolph, Ne and were engaged in farming there. After several years they came to Bassett to the ranch of her parents to live and run the ranch. After the death of Irma's parents, they bought the home place and lived there until they retired in 1970. They bought a home in Bassett and sold the ranch to Irma's nephew, Elmer Harlan. Ray and Irma had no children of their own but nieces and nephews stayed with them in the summer months and enjoyed their Aunt Irma's good cooking and they loved their Uncle Ray. Ray passed away at the Rock County Hospital May 6, 1975; Irma lived on in their Bassett home until the time of her death of leukemia, February 28, 1981 at the Atkinson Memorial Hospital. (End of File)
