Published by Centennial Book Committee - 1987 Copyright 1987 by Rock County Centennial Book Committee and Rock County Historical Society Biography of George Johnson Wick and Bessie May Sybrant Wick Bessie May Sybrant was born at Guys Mills, Pennsylvana May 29, 1869 to David and Lucretia Sybrant. She married George Johnson Wick in 1888. She and her husband came to Rock County, Nebraska in 1898. They purchases land 22 miles south of Bassett, making their home in a sod hous. There were 5 children born to George and May : William (Bill) G., Jesse M, Leanno K., Floyd R. and Herbert L. May and her husband operated a little country store and cream station and the Sybrant Post Office. They moved to Long Pine for 14 years where George carried the mail and May cooked in the North Western Eating House. They then returned to thier home place. May was a mid-wife to many in the area delivering some 78 babies. When her husband passed away , she and her son Jesse remained on the home place. The last 2 years of her life she was about helpless and her son Jesse cared for her. She never complained and Jesse was faithful through it all. She passed away at her home, which was her wish, on December 1, 1954. (End of File)
