Watgen Independent-Democrat Seward County, Seward,NE. paper born 1856, died October 11,1919 Henry D. Watgen was born in New York City, January 9, 1856, and died at his home at 1608 Pawnee street, Lincoln, Neb., at 11 a.m., October 11, 1919, aged 63 years, 9 months and two days. His early years were spent in Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. In 1870 he went to Elgin, Ill., and on October 14, 1877, he was married at Dundee, Ill., to Miss Fredericka Scherf. To this union five children were born, two sons and three daughters, all of whom with their mother and eleven grandchildren, survive. The children are: Wm. J. Watgen of Elgin, Ill., Charles of Lincoln, Mrs. W.F.Hand of Seward, Mrs. T.J. Oneill and Mrs. J.P. Lortz of Lincoln. In 1897 the deceased, with his faily, removed from his home in Illinois to Seward,Neb., and in 1911 they moved to Linocln. Mr. Watgen had been a member of the Odd Fellows order for more than twenty- five years. He was also a member of the Royal Neighbors and Modern Woodmen of America. His member- ship in the three orders was retained at Seward. For nearly a year past the deceased had been a continuous sufferer from cancer of the stomach, but thruout all the long days he remained cheerful, and uncomplaining, a characteristic that marked his entire life. He had many warm friends who will share with the bereaved family in the loss they have sustained. Funeral services were held from the home in Lincoln, Tuesday afternoon, with internment at Wyuka.(Wyuka Cem In Lincoln,NE.) Pall barers from Seward were: Jacob Imig; Harry Blacker; E.E. Evans; E.N.
