Christopher Armstrong was born in County Fermanagh, Ireland, April 4, 1823, and died at Hancock, Iowa, April 14, 1913. He was a farmer, who came to the United States in 1846. His wife, Jane, was born in County Antrim, Ireland, April 11, 1836, and died at Hancock, January 11, 1912. She was the mother of 14 children, six boys and eight girls, and reared 13 of them to manhood and womanhood. Her mother died aboard the vessel on which she was coming to America, and was buried at sea. Mr. Armstrong attended the public school and studied one year at Simpson College, Indiana, Iowa. A farmer in his earlier years, he is now the proprietor of a hotel. He is affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church, is a Mason, an Odd Fellow, and a member of the Lions Club. On September 3, 1902, he was married to Octavia Andrea Nelson at Hancock, Iowa. Mrs. Armstrong was born at Avoca, Iowa, September 3, 1881, of Danish descent. She is a member of the Eastern Star and is affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church. She is the daughter of Nels and Annie (Christensen) Nelson, and attended school at Avoca, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong are active in all civic and community work, especially those activities which are good for the morals of their community. There are two children, Marjorie Lorena, born July 26, 1903, who died October II, 1916; and Claire Mae, born August 17, 1905. Claire is a graduate of the Hay Springs High School and has a Bachelors degree from the State Normal School at Chadron. Residence: Hay Springs.
