James “Jim” Robert Czaplewski, age 74, of Grand Island, died Monday, April 21, 
2008, at Tiffany Square Care Center following a long illness. 

Funeral Mass was Friday, April 25, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with 
Father Frank Curran officiating. Interment was at the Grand Island City 
Cemetery.  

Visitation hours were Thursday, April 24 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. 
At the request of his children, red and white attire was encouraged to help 
celebrate their dad’s love of his Polish heritage. 

Survivors include his wife, Arvada; three sons Russ (Peggy) Czaplewski of 
Shawnee, Kan., Rick Czaplewski and Rob (Amy) Czaplewski, all of Grand Island; 
two daughters, Vikki (Doug) Henry and Valeri (Ryan) McMahon, all of Omaha; 
four grandchildren, Everett, Darien, Erik and Jenna; five brothers, Benjaman 
(Muritta) of Grand Island, Anthony (Vonnie) of St. Paul, Alfred, Thomas 
(Sandy) of Lincoln, Ronald (Betty) of Loup City and a sister, Dorothy Wajckus 
of Fresno, Calif.; sisters-in-law Rose Nida, Arlene Nida and Doris (Paul) 
Cooper all of North Platte; Ruth Czaplewski and Loreen Czaplewski both of 
Grand Island, and Diane Czaplewski of Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Angeline; three brothers, 
Louis, Richard and Robert; brother-in-law Mike Wajckus; sister-in-law Bonnie 
Czaplewski; and his wife’s parents, Milford and Teresa Nida.

Jim was born June 19, 1933, in Loup City to Bernard L. and Angeline (Mendyk) 
Czaplewski.

On Feb. 20, 1962 he married Arvada Nida, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in 
North Platte.
