Stanton Register September 4, 1950
Mrs. Sam Pont - Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Schultz 
Mortuary and Congregational church for Frances Rachel Matthews Pont, 77, who 
died Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Norfolk. She was the daughter 
of James and Mary Jane Matthews born in Adair Co., IA July 14, 1873. She was 
one of 9 children, 5 of which survive. She got her education in the rural 
schools near Fontanelle, IA and moved to Atlantic, IA during her school years 
where she completed her education at the public school.
On January 21, 1903 she married Samuel R. Pont at Atlantic. During the next 
month, they came to Stanton Co. and settled on a farm north of Stanton where 
they stayed for nearly 40 years. She is survived by 5 children. Also 2 sisters 
and 3 brothers. Mrs. Adeline Kinsella of Minneapolis, Mrs. Clara Gaulke of 
Alpena, SD, Allen and James of Atlantic, IA, and Guy of Minneapolis.
