Terry Buol officiating. Burial was in the Stanton Cemetery. Mrs. Schellpeper died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997 at the Stanton Nursing Home, Christmas morning at 0930. She was born to Samuel and Frances (Matthews) Pont on Nov. 8, 1903 on the family farm north of Stanton. She attended rural school District 8 for a short time and graduated from Stanton Schools in 1922. She taught rural school District 23 for four years and attended summer school in 1923 and 1924 at Wayne State College. On June 16, 1926, she married Harold Schellpeper in Madison. They lived on a farm southeast of Winside in Wayne County for about three years before moving to the Schellpeper farm in Dewey Precinct in Stanton County in 1929. Mrs. Schellpeper was a life member of the New England Congregational Church in Stanton. She taught Sunday school and held several offices in the church and Women's Fellowship, and was a moderator of the Northeast Association of the United Church of Christ for one term. She received the Good Neighbor Award from Ak-Sar-Ben in 1961. She was a charter member of the Stanton Senior Citizens Board, a member of the Home Culture Club, served as county chairman of the county extension clubs and was on the District 23 school board for several years. After the death of her husband on May 25, 1979, she retired into Stanton. Survivors include children and spouses, Veryl and Charles Jackson of Winside and Ronald and JoAnne Schellpeper of Stanton; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildrenl and one brother, Vernon Pont of Little Falls, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son in infancy, one great-grandson, two brothers and one sister.
