Dale, A.B., Lincoln, Nebraska. The school census of April, 1875, is for Lancaster County one of the most valuable records for genealogical purposes now in existence. From 50% to 60% of this census is still intact and is on file in the office of the County Superintendent of Public Instruction. There are a few fragmentary census records before that date. This census gives the names of the parents or guardians, that is, the heads of families where there were children of school age, the location of the land on which they lived, and the names of the children from 5 years up to 21 years. The census is seldom complete above the age of 15 or 16 years, and young married women are often included under the guardianship of their husbands. Most of the names have been checked against land records and later census returns and sometimes amplified in brackets. Where variations of a name are found they are also given in brackets. For the convenience of the reader the precinct is used as the unit for this report. MILL PRECINCT (TOWN 12 NORTH, RANGE 8 EAST) SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 32 AGE PARENTS OR GUARDIANS CHILDREN BOYS GIRLS W.
