Spore, 93, of York, died Aug. 5, 2010 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug.14, 2010 at Metz Mortuary in York with Pastor Paul Knott officiating. There will be no burial as Mr. Spore was donated to the University of Nebraska Medical College. Robert was born Feb. 9, 1917 near Sylvia, Kan., to the Rev. Clarence and Minnie (Buswell) Spore. He grew up in York and graduated from York High School and York College. In May 1939, he married Helen Hoit of Cowles. He was a teacher for 14 years, worked for electrical utilities for 15 years, and for architectural engineering firms for 11 years. He was a communications officer in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the East Avenue Methodist Church of York. Robert is survived by his daughter Rebekah (Roger) Clocker of Wadsworth, Ohio; sons Robert L (Margot) Spore of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Allen (Susan) Spore of Oakland, Calif., Charles (Patricia) Spore of Hastings and William (Janet) Spore of Keller, Texas; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters; one brother; Helen, his wife of 61 years, and special friend, Winifred Oglesby.
