His father, born at Newton, New Jersey, November 25, 1857. His grandfather served in the Civil War with the Union Army, and was in the band through the entire war. His father, a farmer, was one of the early settlers in Valley County, where he reared a family of five children, giving all of them a common school education. His wife, Mattie, was born in Barry, Illinois, in July, 1854. A teacher and an old time singing instructor, she is now active in religious work. Her family settled early in Illinois, her father driving an ox team to the coast in 1849, came back across the Isthmus of Panama to New York, where he had his gold coined. A brother served in the Union Army in the Civil War. Educated in public school, Arthur Jay Auble excelled in pole vaulting and made a broad jump of 19 feet three inches. A farmer until 1907, he was the owner of an orange grove in California, until July, 1908. He studied watch repairing until the spring of 1909, when he opened a jewelry store at Wolbach. This was sold in the spring of 1910, and the next year was spent with a brother on his farm in Winner, South Dakota. In March, 1911, Mr. Auble purchased back his store at Wolbach. Thereafter he traded that business for a store at Ord, which he operates in association with his brother who is an optician. He and his brother are interested in an all metal marquise, on which they have the patent, which is being made in Hastings. On February 23, 1914, Mr. Auble was married to Pauline Andrea Hansen, at Grand Island. She was born at Wolbach, December 3, 1894, of Danish parentage. They have three children living, and one deceased: Leota, born May 4, 1916, who is the official piano player in the high school orchestra; Joycelyn, born October 18, 1918, who is first chair flutist; Don, born June 3, 1926; and Jay, Jr., born June 14, 1924, who died in July, 1924. Mr. Auble is a Republican. He is a Methodist, a Mason, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Parent-Teachers’ Association, and the Nebraskana Society. He enjoys golf, and is a member of the Ord Golf Club, while his hobby is mechanics. Residence: Ord.
