Bernard Arndt, born in Hamburg, Germany, April 13, 1826, was a cigar manufacturer, who served as a sergeant in the Ohio National Guard. He died at West Point, Nebraska, December 5, 1919. His wife, Dorretta, was born in Bremen, Germany, March 15, 1829, and died at Blair, in 1911. Graduated from elementary schools in Cincinnati, Mr. Arndt attended Blair High School, and was advanced in May, 1877. Pie has been a resident of Nebraska sixty years, during which time he has engaged as a hardware merchant, automobile dealer and oil distributor. He is president of the Arndt-Snyder Motor Company, vice president of the Blair Building and Loan Association, and treasurer of the N-I Oil Company. He is vice president of the Nebraska Hardware Mutual Insurance Company, treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Nebraska Hardware Association and the Chamber of Commerce. On April 8, 1886, he was married to Sophia Estelle Riddler at Blair. She was born at Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, of Scotch and English descent, and died at Blair, January 9, 1922. There were three children born to this marriage, Wilfred B., born April 12, 1887, who is an automobile salesman: Mary Josephine, born January 9, 1888, and who is an artist; and Dorrette May, born January 10, 1891, who is a singer and pianist. Mr. Arndt is a Republican a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and The Nebraskana Society. He is a member of the Blair Golf Club. On February 6, 1924, Mr. Arndt was married to Annie Vio Gates at Grand Island, Nebraska. She is a newspaper woman, member of the state senatorial committee, vice chairman of the Washington County central committee 1931, member of the Eastern Star for the past twenty years. Mr. Arndt is a member of the Masons, Royal Arch Masons, and Knights Templar. Residence: Blair.
