Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at New England Congregational Church here with burial in Stanton Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Shultz- Vogel-Johnson Mortuary. Veryl J. Jackson was born March 1, 1929, the daughter of Harold and Hazel Schellpeper, at the farm home of her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Pont, near Stanton. She was raised on a farm in northeast Stanton County, which has been in the Schellpeper family for 137 years. Veryl attended grade school at Schellpeper District 23 and graduated from Stanton High School in 1946. She attended Commercial Extension School in Omaha, graduating in 1947. For the next three years she worked in the Stanton County clerk's office. Veryl married Charles Jackson on March 12, 1950, at the New England Congregational Church in Stanton. For 17 years they farmed in the Winside area, and in 1967 they moved into Winside. She was a very active member of Wayne Chapter 194 Order of Eastern Star. She was initiated into the order on Dec. 20, 1954, held the office of Worthy Matron in 1972 and held several offices until 2000. She was a member in good standing at the time of her death. Veryl was employed by Winside Public Shool 95R as a bus driver for 2 years, retiring in December 1988. She was a member of the Winside Lutheran Hospital Service Guild, co-chairperson of Winside Centennial Committee, member of the Winside Historical Museum Society and charter member of the Scattered Neighbors Home Extension Club. The family belonged to the Winside Saddle Club in the 1960s and were in partnership in operating Winside Roller Rink from 1964 to 1969. Bridge Club, dancing and visiting relatives and friends were some of her favorite hobbies. She is survived by her husband, Charles Jackson of Winside; children, Barbara Jackson of Norfolk, Bob Jackson of Omaha, Scott and Patty Jackson of Winside; daughter-in-law, Julie Jackson of Lincoln; granddaughter, Angela Jackson of Omaha; two grandsons, Matthew and April Jackson of Omaha and Nathan Jackson of Omaha; one great-granddaughter, Mallory Jackson of Omaha; one brother, Ronald and Jo Anne Schellpeper of Stanton. Veryl was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Hazel; one brother Daryl; one son, James in 2006; and one grandchild, Mark Jackson. The Revs. Mary Beth Cross and Gail Axen will officiate. Music will be by organist Mary Benson and the congregation. Pallbearers are Robert Stassen, Robert Schellpeper, Brad Schellpeper, Matthew Jackson, Nathan Jackson, Scott Jackson.
