ARNOLD, WILLIAM, was born in Westmoreland, N.H., Mar. 29, 1792, and learned the machinist's
trade and worked at that business in his younger days. At what time he came to Walpole is 
not known, but at one time he worked for Thomas Moore as a fired man on his farm, and 
married one of his daughters, Naomi, Oct., 3rd 1822, who was born Sep. 14, 1795. After his
marriage he worked at his trade a while in Pawtucket, R.I. where some of his children were
born. He returned to Walpole and purchased the Robinson tavern stand and commenced keeping
a public house in 1837, in which business he continued till the building of the Cheshire 
R.R. when tavern keeping was relinquished.

When he commenced keeping tavern there a large amount of travel was upon the road that 
passed his house, it being the Third N.H. Turnpike. Here he and his wife did their best to
please, thereby securing a good share of customers, who were sure to be well cared for.
After he reliquished tavern keeping, he turned his attention to farming, which occupation 
he followed till the infirmities of age caused him to suspend labor He d. Aug. 27, 1876. Ch.

     Frank L.; m. 2d, Gilbert T. Stevens, issue 2 ch. one living.
II.  Mary P. b. Sept. 27, 1824; m. O. H. P. Watkins, May 14, 1847; issue 3 ch. (see Ap.)
III. William, b.Dec. 26,1826; m. Mary S. Stevens of Warwick, Mass., Sep. 7, 1852; issu
     3 ch., 2 living. (See Ap.)
IV.  Sarah Jane, b. Aug. 29, 1829; m. Henry D. Bacon. She is now a widow and resides at 
     Bebee Plain, Canada.
V.   Sophia, b. July 19, 1834; m. Nelson Johnson, Oct. 19, 1865; issue 2 ch., resides in
     Westminster, Vt.
VI.  Frances N., b. Mar. 2d, 1836; m. George A. Sherman, June 13, 1866, residence, Keene,
     N. H.
